The IPF You've All Been Waiting For

SMU finally released the renderings for the new athletics facility and it’s every bit as pristine as fans have come to expect from SMU buildings.

Rick Hart and the athletic department released the renderings that you can see here: http://smumustangs.com/galleries/?gallery=396

This news comes just days after SMU officially announced their desire for a bid to the Big 12. The facility will have a natural grass outdoor field and a turf indoor field with a 300m indoor track.

As rumored, the facility will sit where the current soccer stadium is and will cover the entirety of the McElvaney parking lot. Based on the renderings it looks like it fits perfectly and it completes the quad that SMU has been working on, on the South side of campus.

The former football fields will be renovated into a decent sized soccer pitch in between Ford Stadium and the church.

Hart said that the new facility shows fans, donors and future student-athlete that SMU means to compete—big time. In total, since 2001, SMU has invested almost $200 million in athletics facilities.

"Our commitment to competing for championships and enhancing the student experience requires continued investment in student well-being and our people as well as our infrastructure," said Hart. "SMU and its donors and fans have made huge investments in athletics in recent years, and these projects are yet another step forward for our department."

SMU’s release says that funds are being actively pursued and says that completion should be expected about 16 months after construction begins. SMU says this project is just phase one of the $150 million facilities investment.
